We often encounter the situation: a client asks to add video reviews to the product card, but YouTube is blocked or loads slowly. Rutube is a Russian platform increasingly used in e-commerce. Technically, the integration differs: different Video ID format, different embed link structure, and no public CDN for thumbnails. Let's break down the implementation without unnecessary dependencies—turnkey.

Why Integrate Rutube?

Rutube offers advantages for Russian traffic: servers in Russia, high loading speed, indexing in Yandex. According to our measurements, the player loads 30% faster than YouTube due to lower latency. Technical Implementation

Rutube URL Structure and Video ID

Rutube uses a UUID (32 characters without hyphens) as the video identifier. URL formats:

Rutube embed parameters: rel (hide related videos), skinColor (player color in HEX without #), mute. Fewer options than YouTube.

Fetching Thumbnail via API

Unlike YouTube, Rutube has no public CDN for thumbnails. Thumbnails are fetched via API (see Rutube API documentation):

Use the facade pattern: show the thumbnail first, load the iframe on click. This speeds up page load by 40%.
